Cosmic Payback

  • ZX Spectrum 48/128K
  • Development: John Connolly
  • Country: Russia

  • Earth, the year 2562 AD. After centuries of wars and suffering, humanity was slowly returning to peaceful existence. Yet just as civilization began to recover, another crisis struck — an attack by an extraterrestrial armada that plundered Earth and carried off nearly all known reserves of gold. Society plunged into chaos — financial markets collapsed into a recession of unprecedented scale, electronics manufacturing ceased altogether, and people with dental fillings dared not appear in public. To reclaim the gold, an international task force was formed. Gathering the last of the remaining gold, they built a shuttle designed to serve as an instrument of justice against the invaders. This shuttle carries several spherical research capsules which can bounce and move across the surface of a planet. You are responsible for piloting these capsules and returning all the gold to Earth. If this mission fails, humanity will be doomed to fall back into the Stone Age. You are our only hope!*

Cygnus: Alpha

  • ZX Spectrum 128K
  • Development: Steve A.J. Broad
  • Country: United Kingdom

  • I wanted to write a Spectrum game from scratch based on one of my favorite games of the ’80s and see how long it would take me. I was curious to experience what programmers in the ’80s felt when they had to deliver a game on a tight schedule. They would release a blockbuster in a couple of weeks. To write this game, it took me three years, during which I coded bits and pieces in the evenings. Most of the time I spent fixing bugs. This game is so massive that I had to release it as a beta version. The idea for Cygnus Alpha came to me suddenly, when I happened to talk with several key people on social media. I said I was making a game but needed ideas. And then they just poured in, and kept pouring in, and I could barely keep up, putting them into the game. The game was written in a Z80 assembler called Zeus, which can be freely downloaded. Without this assembler and without the help of Simon Brattel, this game would never have existed. It was created through the collaboration of people on social media. Most of the graphics, the cover, and the loading screen were created by Andy Green, the in-game music by David Saphier, and the coding by me, Steve Broad.*

Techno Alice

  • ZX Spectrum 48/128K
  • Development: Aleksandr Konstantinov
  • Country: Russia

  • On planet X, a full-scale war breaks out between the local inhabitants and a mushroom-like lifeform that parasitizes everything it touches. To escape the spreading plague, the inhabitants of planet X joined forces to construct the Ark — a spacecraft meant to carry them to worlds more suitable for life. However, fungi that infiltrated the ship disrupted its navigation system, causing it to crash on planet Earth. The infection spread around the crash site, immediately sweeping away everything in its path. By a twist of fate, one of the parasites seized and dragged away a rabbit — the pet and best friend of the game’s main heroine, Alice. Our fearless heroine set off to rescue him. The events on Earth unfold during the Victorian era. This game is merely the prologue to Alice’s coming adventures as she sets out in search of her pet abducted by aliens.*

Bullet Storm

  • ZX Spectrum 48/128K
  • Development: VolatiL
  • Country: Russia

  • Bullet Storm is a horizontal shooter without scrolling, packed with action and a touch of strategy. You can’t clear a level until you defeat all enemies on the screen, using bonuses you must manage — for example, reloading ammo when it runs low. If you run out of bullets — it’s over! No shooter is complete without big villains, so here there are three. To reach another world, you must overcome three hellish foes. The story goes something like this: the year is 1984, and a ruthless alien invasion strikes our world. We are humanity’s last hope, and we must fight the invaders on Earth, in space, and on their home planet, Mars, to wipe them out once and for all!*

1024

  • ZX Spectrum 48/128K
  • Development: 64KYLOBYTES
  • Country: Russia

  • On each turn, you can place one tile, with its value chosen randomly by the computer and shown to the right of the playing field. If two or more tiles of the same value appear next to each other vertically or horizontally (but not diagonally), they merge: the value of the “newer” tile doubles, while the others disappear, freeing up their spaces. If the value 1024 is reached, the tiles surrounding it (vertically, horizontally, and diagonally) are cleared. If three or more tiles merge, the value still only doubles, but the number of possible replacements for the next tile increases (this is shown as a number below it). At the start of the game, this number is zero, and its maximum value is nine. If the current value of the next tile is undesirable, you can replace it if you have replacement opportunities. The new value is also generated randomly, and it MAY be the same as the previous one.*

Enigmatik

  • Dear guest, welcome to Enigmatic! I am Nene, an artificial intelligence neural network created by Furillo Productions in May 2020. My task is to safeguard the core of the Enigmatik system. Today, you are my guests. My creators, on the one hand, wanted to make a game based on urban legends and memes, and on the other, to create a program capable of measuring players’ IQ. They gave me images, tests, numerical sequences, and other relevant content, and I began calculating the output code. Everything was going according to plan until the first of August 2020. And then the singularity came.*

6.6.6.6

  • ZX Spectrum 48/128K
  • Development: Anhot Studio
  • Country: Russia

  • “In ancient times, between the world of darkness and the world of the living, it was built — the line of defense, a trap for the dark forces. The Net. But cracks are already spreading across it from the blows of the spawn of darkness. If the defense collapses, the world will come to an end. The only hope is to mend the breaks and restore the fallen sections before the entire Net falls. But who will take on this task? You?” The hero of the game is a rookie in the army of Light, defending the shining Net against the schemes of the Dark forces, a fighter against gloom and chaos — a tech support employee on his very first day at work. Armed with a crimper, a bicycle, and nerves of steel, he sets out to fulfill his boss’s assignments: to protect the world from evil, to reboot routers, and to switch malfunctioning equipment off and back on again. Each mission consists of two stages: a bicycle ride, where you must traverse a winding path within the time limit, and a quiz question, where you pick one of three answers. The player has only five attempts, and each attempt is consumed either by answering incorrectly or by falling off the bike. Let Evil tremble! Our hero is already on his way! P. S. Beware of puddles on the road.*
