GameplayA city-building simulator on the Spectrum in SimCity style! The model is simplified, but here we build Tobolsk, not some nameless US town. Transforming a dull town into a metropolis is fun, though the controls take getting used to: oddly, space is Cancel, which confuses. But many hotkeys are a plus. Fans of the genre will get hooked.

GraphicsSibCity desperately lacks color — like its prototype, SimCity (whose Spectrum version was drawn by judge Simon Butler). Perhaps larger tiles would help. Still, the graphics are functional, giving a sense of what you’re building. The menus look neat.

6

SoundNo sound at all, which is a pity. Even a city builder could be given good sound.

GameplayI've never been a Sim fan but I can see this would appeal to those who are.

6

GraphicsThe graphics are ideal for this type of game.

GameplayAnother top down map type strategy game. Again, I'm not a fan of these types of game. Instructions are insufficent for my simple brain to make sense of it all.

5

GraphicsOn okay loading screen. The stippled towers on the right don't really go with the rest of the screen, which is what lets it down. Best looking strategy game from this bunch though with an OK scroll routine.

El Mundo del Spectrum

GameplayCity-building game with a highly impressive technical aspect.

8

GraphicsFor this type of game, sprites need to be simple and easily identifiable. Achieved.

6

SoundThe overall result would have been better with some sound.

GameplayThis is an ambitious game and it's well presented, but the enjoyment of a game like this does become limited because of the scope of the machine. I also found the controls a little frustrating, having to press two keys each time I wanted to build one piece of road. It's the kind of game I think would have been a lot of fun in the 1980s, but is the type of game best played on a more capable machine.

6

Graphicsthe scrolling map is nice, especially as it also has a zoomed out mini map as well.

7

Soundagain, I don't think there was any sound in this one.
